Credit Card Data - do not print it online or offiline
A federal law, the Fair and Accurate Transactions Act, effective since late 2006, requires merchants to refrain from printing full credit card numbers, but to date, many merchants have not yet complied with the requirement.
The Southern District of Florida recently held, in Grabein v. 1-800-Flowers.com, Inc., No. 07-22235 (SD Fla, Jan. 29, 2008), that online retailers providing on-screen sales confirmations are also bound by the statute, and, with a new law passed in California requiring retailers to abide by the federal Fair and Accurate Transactions Act in records they retain for business purposes, the issue promises to be an interesting one to watch, Andrew Smith, Morrison & Foster, Washington D.C., told attendees April 12 at the American Bar Association Business Law Section's Spring Meeting in Dallas.

The 2003 Fair and Accurate Transactions Act, 15 USC §1681c(g), prohibits any person who accepts credit and debit cards as means of payments from printing more than the last five digits of the card number, or the card's expiration date, on a receipt.

Review your procedures and save yourself the hassle of class action litigation.
