Protect Customer Personal Information |
The Federal Trade Commission announced April 18 that it has approved the final consent order in its case against Life is good, Inc. concerning the company's alleged failure to provide adequate security for customers' personal information. In re Life is good, Inc. (Decision and Order), [FTC, 2008].
For the next 20 (yes that reads twenty) years, Life is good, Inc. has the pleasure of reporting to the FTC with regards to their security measures and how they are maintaining customer information.
Their initial compliance report, due within 180 days, must include:
• implementing and maintaining a comprehensive security program;
• obtaining initial and biennial assessments of the security program;
• maintaining copies of all documents relating to compliance with the order;
• providing copies of the order to all company members; and
• notifying the commission of any corporation change that may affect the order within 30 days of the change.
Take adequate measures, consult with an attorney, and make sure the data is adequately secure.
